La presente revisión documental tuvo como objetivo describir cuál es el estado de conocimiento actual sobre la sobrecarga en cuidadores de pacientes con enfermedades mentales, para lo cual se realizó una revisión de 46 artículos de revistas arbitradas, escritos en inglés y español, los cuales fueron agrupados en cinco núcleos temáticos: tipo de trastorno, medidas directas, impacto de la sobrecarga, intervenciones y perfil del cuidador. Todos los resultados encontrados en la masa documental se contrastaron con los antecedentes de investigación y se encontró que, sobre el tipo de trastorno, se evalúa con más frecuencia a los cuidadores de pacientes con esquizofrenia y demencia. Acerca de medidas directas, es decir, aquellos estudios que utilizaron instrumentos para medir específicamente la sobrecarga, tanto en los antecedentes como en la masa documental, se destacó la entrevista de Zarit como la más utilizada. En el núcleo temático, impacto de la sobrecarga, se identificaron las consecuencias directas de la sobrecarga las cuales son evaluadas mediante otros instrumentos adicionales, algunas de las consecuencias medidas más frecuentes son: calidad de vida, afrontamiento y apoyo social. En cuanto a las intervenciones, se encontraron escasos artículos de éste tipo, sin embargo, dentro de la masa documental, el tipo de intervención más utilizado fue la psicoeducación, no obstante, se concluyó que no es el más efectivo. Por último, el perfil del cuidador se destacó por ser en su mayoría mujeres en etapa de adultez intermedia, casadas y madres o cónyuges del paciente. Es así como se demuestra que se ha avanzado en el estudio de ésta temática, específicamente en la descripción y análisis del impacto no solo en la vida y bienestar del cuidador sino en su entorno, sin embargo, los cuidadores continúan experimentando sobrecarga, por lo que es necesario seguir indagando en esta problemática y ejecutando acciones para mitigar los efectos asociados a esta. |

Todos los resultados encontrados en la masa documental se contrastaron con los antecedentes de investigación y se encontró que, sobre el tipo de trastorno, se evalúa con más frecuencia a los cuidadores de pacientes con esquizofrenia y demencia. Acerca de medidas directas, es decir, aquellos estudios que utilizaron instrumentos para medir específicamente la sobrecarga, tanto en los antecedentes como en la masa documental, se destacó la entrevista de Zarit como la más utilizada. En el núcleo temático, impacto de la sobrecarga, se identificaron las consecuencias directas de la sobrecarga las cuales son evaluadas mediante otros instrumentos adicionales, algunas de las consecuencias medidas más frecuentes son: calidad de vida, afrontamiento y apoyo social. En cuanto a las intervenciones, se encontraron escasos artículos de éste tipo, sin embargo, dentro de la masa documental, el tipo de intervención más utilizado fue la psicoeducación, no obstante, se concluyó que no es el más efectivo. Por último, el perfil del cuidador se destacó por ser en su mayoría mujeres en etapa de adultez intermedia, casadas y madres o cónyuges del paciente. All the results found in the documentary were contrasted with research backgroung and it was found that, regarding the type of disorder, caregivers of patients with schizophrenia and dementia were more frequently evaluated. Regarding direct measures, those studies that used instruments to specifically measure burden, both in the background and in the documentation, Zarit Burden Interview stood out as the most used. In the thematic nucleus, impact of burden, the direct consequences of burden were identified, which are evaluated through other additional instruments, some of the most frequent consequences measured are: quality of life, coping and social support. As for the interventions, few articles of this type were found, however, within the documentation, the type of intervention most used was psychoeducation, nonetheless, it was concluded that it is not the most effective. Lastly, the caregiver's profile stood out for being mostly women in the middle adulthood stage, married, and mothers or spouses of the patient.
