description En la medida, en que la sociedad postmoderna se ha valido en gran parte del discurso de la ciencia caracterizado por su tendencia a la estandarización, se evidencia esta influencia en las disciplinas enfocadas a la salud mental; pues tanto la psiquiatría como la psicología, utilizan el DSM-IV como un instrumento estándar de evaluación. Partiendo de este punto, surge la inquietud respecto a las diferencias entre el psicólogo y el psiquiatra a la hora de tomar una posición frente a los recursos diagnósticos, DSM-IV, estableciéndose la duda por el lugar del discurso del sujeto y por consiguiente el sujeto mismo, en la labor psicoterapéutica de la psicología.

Partiendo de este punto, surge la inquietud respecto a las diferencias entre el psicólogo y el psiquiatra a la hora de tomar una posición frente a los recursos diagnósticos, DSM-IV, estableciéndose la duda por el lugar del discurso del sujeto y por consiguiente el sujeto mismo, en la labor psicoterapéutica de la psicología.The emphasis that characterize the scientific discourse in postmodern societies has influenced the disciplines which study mental health. This explains why both psychology and psychiatry use classifications such as the DSM IV as a standard measure for evaluation.
