A los colombianos en general se nos ha acostumbrado a pensar que ciencia, conocimiento, investigación, son conceptos o acciones que corresponden solo a una minoría de personas, por lo general vinculadas a la universidad o a la enseñanza. Pero resulta que todos tenemos capacidades que se refieren a estos conceptos: todos podemos conocer, investigar y tener conocimientos científicos. Lo que pasa es que el conocimiento también es una fuente de poder; como lo es la propiedad de los medios de producción o la propiedad privada. Así como hay una estructura de poder basada en la propiedad, también en sociedades como la nuestra, existe una estructura de poder basada en la ciencia. A pueblos, a los sectores populares, en general, no se les ha permitido. El tener conocimiento, el participar en la investigación de su propia realidad, precisamente para excluirlos de esa estructura de poder, como se les excluye de la estructura de poder económico de la sociedad. |

But it turns out that we all have capacities that refer to these concepts: we can all know, investigate and have scientific knowledge. The thing is that knowledge is also a source of power; as is the ownership of the means of production or private property. Just as there is a power structure based on property, so in societies like ours, there is a power structure based on science. People, the popular sectors, in general, have not been allowed.
