description	There is analyzed how the elites of Cali faced the problem of the hygiene in the middle of the 20th century, in a context of the renovation of the public politics, which was sealed by the redefinition of the place of the “people”; for the processes of industrialization, urbanization and demographic growth and for the consolidation of a medical of the company. From it splits of the supposition of which the practices and institutions about the hygiene in Cali rested essentially on the imaginary one of the defense of the people. Para ello se parte del supuesto de que las prácticas e instituciones alrededor de la higiene en Cali se apoyaron esencialmente en el imaginario de la defensa del pueblo. Estas discusiones se lograron rastrear en los archivos municipales y periódicos de la época. Una política que se intentó poner en práctica en una coyuntura que generaba tensiones entre las viejas tendencias morales, los códigos normativos y las nuevas prácticas científicas de la salud pública y de la medicina social.Discute como as elites de Cali foram confrontadas com o problema de higiene no meados do século XX, no contexto da renovação da política pública, que foi marcada pela redefinição do lugar do ‘povo’; pelos processos de industrialização, urbanização e crescimento populacional e a consolidação de uma medicalização da sociedade. Para esta finalidade são baseadas na suposição de que as práticas e instituições sobre a higiene em Cali é essencialmente suportado na imaginação da defesa do povo. Estas discussões foram seguidas nos arquivos municipais e periódicos do tempo.
