The sandstones of the Arcabuco Formation along the Suaita-Chima Syncline may have potential as unconventional gas reservoir in tight sandstone. These sandstones are mainly subarkose and lithic arkose moderated sorted
with grain size from very fine to medium sandstone. They range from 1
77 to 13
41% porosity and permeability from 0
107 to 5
399 mD. The petrographic analyzes indicates these sandstones are from middle to late diagenetic stage
evidenced by the presence of sericite and quartz overgrowth. The model of hydrocarbons generation and migration indicates that Rosablanca Formation generated hydrocarbons in the Cretaceous (113 Ma) which migrated toward Arcabuco Formation sandstones in the Paleogene (28 m). During the Miocene the Suaita-Chima Syncline is subjected to erosion and much of the hydrocarbons accumulated in the Arcabuco Formation were lost by migration to the surface. Because the cementing reduced permeability sandstones in Arcabuco Formation
loss of gas from this formation was reduced
favoring the retention of gas. Therefore the probability of finding gas reservoir in the cemented sands of the Arcabuco Formation in the Suita-Chima syncline is presented
