During the exploration stage of an oilfield is very important to characterize the properties of the reservoir and the fluids contained inside it. Drill Stem Test (DST) has a major role in this characterization and helps to determine and analyze the production potential of a well. This test are carried out in exploration wells using a temporary completion to isolate the interest zone and perform flow and shut in periods
whose information is recorded in memory gauges for a further analysis. Besides
DST permits the sampling of reservoir fluid necessary to do a PVT characterization. The results of this tests provide very important information in the decision making process
since it helps to clarify the commerciality of a prospect and define a basis for future drilling
completion
stimulation or abandonment operations. The DST workflow is developed following: (1) correct planning
(2) followed by the design of the test
(3) then the operation of carrying out the test including mobilization and demobilization of the equipment
(4) and finally the further analysis of the information obtained from the test. Because of the importance of DST
this research work is aimed to identify and analyze the major factors and constraints that govern the design and analysis of these tests
explaining all the recommended practices in every stage to the correct performing of DST.
