The purpose in this paper is to broaden the description of the characteristics of the loss produced by torture, in the sense alluded by Corbí, as well as in a further sense: the actual loss of the world. This kind of loss refers to the way physical harm confines the victim to a sort of hermetic imprisonment in what Hannah Arendt calls “the sphere of the private”.En su libro Morality Self-knwoledge and Human Suffering. An Essay on the Loss of Confidence in the World, Josep Corbí hace un análisis de las descripciones de Jean Améry sobre la tortura de la que fue víctima en 1943. Los aspectos centrales de este análisis se resumen en los términos “pérdida de confianza en el mundo”. El propósito de este artículo es ampliar la descripción de las características de la pérdida producida por la tortura tanto en el sentido al que alude Corbí como en un segundo sentido, a saber, la pérdida del mundo mismo.
