The objective of this paper is to analyze oil production in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela during the period between 2002 and 2015. An econometric model was developed using the Cobb-Douglas production function, and the results obtained allowed observing the existing gap between real production and the goals proposed by the Venezuelan state.La producción de energía está directamente relacionada a la demanda creciente y la excesiva dependencia de la producción de los recursos fósiles, es decir, carbón, petróleo y gas natural, cuya obtención debe planificarse en un escenario seguro, limpio, eficiente y sostenible. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar la producción de petróleo en la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, durante el periodo comprendido entre el 2002 y el 2015.
