This project involves the study and functionality of electronic devices recently acquired by the E3T. It is based on the concept of Software Defined Radio (SDR)
using some specific devices that have never been used in the Universidad Industrial de Santander (Industrial university of Santander). These electronic devices are the USRP X310
board mounted GPSDO (OCXO)
as well as CBX
WBX and SBX daughterboards. The use of the free software platform GNU Radio together with USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral) devices corresponds to a SDR system. In this way
GNU Radio allows the realization of different communication systems by interconnecting blocks through a graphical interface. A block in GNU Radio was designed and implemented to operate the board mounted GPSDO (OCXO) on the USRP X310. This block acquires the location of the radio on the planet using Global Positioning System (GPS). Tests were conducted in order to compare the performance of board mounted GPSDO (OCXO) with the one of a mobile phone GPS receiver. Three different sites were defined for testing purposes. As a result
the location of each one was found by using Google Maps Web-based service. Characterization tests on the response frequency USRP X310 were performed using CBX
SBX and WBX daughterboards. The corresponding tests were conducted using the radio as a receiver as well as a transmitter. Finally
a detailed guide is presented in order to illustrate the assembly
installation
configuration and operation of the USRP X310 using GNU Radio. In addition
there is a laboratory practice explaining the installation of the block created in GNU Radio and the operation of board mounted GPSDO (OCXO) on the USRP X310.
