This work contains a statistical description of the situation of competitive factors in the Basic and Media education pillar in Latin American continent since 2008 to 2015 and in Santander in 2012-2014 period
made by observing indicators provided by the World Economic Forum and the Private Competitiveness Council. As a result of the research
were obtained the conditions that influenced the behavior of Basic and Media education pillar and they were taken into account to make public policy recommendations that could improve the competitiveness of the pillar in long term and promote the development of competences that form integral and productive

description El mundo está inmerso a la globalización enfrentándose a enormes desafíos; los países compiten todo el tiempo por mantener una posición estable dentro del mercado interno y externo para que sus economías no desfallezcan y se logren posicionar en el mercado internacional. Ante la globalización, es difícil ser competitivos, situación que no es ajena a los países, puesto que quieren ser globalizadas y que las empresas nacionales puedan competir a nivel global con otras empresas encontradas en otros naciones. La competitividad, es vista como la capacidad de las naciones, territorios u organizaciones para enfrentarse a los retos del mercado mundial. Para ser competitivo es necesario estructurar y capacitar un capital humano capaz de afrontar y superar los desafíos de la sociedad global. El trabajo contiene una descripción estadística de la situación de los factores competitivos en el pilar de educación Básica-Media en el continente de Latinoamérica en los años del 2008 al 2015 y en el Departamento de Santander del 2012-2014, mediante la observación de indicadores proporcionados por el Foro Económico Mundial y Consejo privado de competitividad.
