is worrisome given that the current systems of treatment of wastewater are not effective in to remove them. In this paper a review of the EC associated with groups according to their use
such as drugs
nanomaterials
composites lifestyle and toilet
among others
exposing the places where they were detected and the effects associated with their presence becomes. Additionally they were revised screening techniques that have been used for such studies
obtaining better results by integrating LC-MS / MS. Meanwhile
the removal treatments the EC best efficiency rates are advanced oxidation and reverse osmosis. In Colombia there are some studies on CE in water bodies
and their presence has been demonstrated in these ecosystems. Therefore
it is necessary to invest in the development and implementation of new integrated systems for water treatment to ensure control of these substances.

description El desconocimiento sobre el destino de los productos que a diario consumimos, ha permitido que nuestros ecosistemas, en particular los acuáticos, se contaminen con estos compuestos o sus metabolitos. En general, estas sustancias químicas son denominadas Contaminantes Emergentes (CE), y agrupan aquellos que no son considerados para el análisis de calidad del agua o en regulaciones ambientales; sin embargo, su impacto sobre el medio ambiente y la salud es innegable. Las concentraciones a las que se encuentran son del orden de ppb-ppm, lo cual dificulta su detección, pero el hecho de ser introducidos contantemente en el medio, es preocupante dado que los sistemas actuales de tratamientos de agua residual no son efectivos a la hora de eliminarlos. En esta monografía se hace una revisión sobre los CE asociados por grupos según su uso, tales como medicamentos, nanomateriales, compuestos de estilo de vida y aseo, entre otros, exponiendo los lugares en donde se han detectado y los efectos asociados con su presencia. Adicionalmente fueron revisadas las técnicas de detección que se han usado para este tipo de estudios, obteniendo mejores resultados al integrar LC-MS/MS. Por su parte, los tratamientos de eliminación de los CE con mejores porcentajes de eficiencia son los de oxidación avanzada y osmosis inversa. En Colombia existen algunos estudios sobre CE en cuerpos de agua, y su presencia ha sido evidenciada en estos ecosistemas. Por lo anterior, es necesario invertir en el desarrollo e implementación de nuevos sistemas integrados para el tratamiento del agua que garanticen el control de estas sustancias.
