RESUMEN: La enfermería en su práctica profesional se desenvuelve en múltiples contextos; uno de ellos es el centro quirúrgico definido como el conjunto de ambientes físicos que proporcionan al equipo quirúrgico las facilidades necesarias para efectuar procedimientos quirúrgicos en forma eficaz, eficiente y en condiciones de máxima seguridad. Objetivo: describir, analizar el contexto del cuidado en el centro quirúrgico desde el punto de vista de los pacientes y del equipo de enfermería. Metodología: cualitativa con enfoque en la teoría fundamentada. Se recogieron los datos a través de la observación, las entrevistas informales y formales a 20 pacientes, 19 auxiliares de enfermería y 8 enfermeras que laboran en diferentes centros quirúrgicos de segundo nivel, del valle de Aburrá. Resultados: de los datos emerge un esquema teórico compuesto por doce categorías. En el presente artículo se presenta la categoría que hace parte del contexto trabajando y estando en un área diferente, conformada por las siguientes subcategorías: llamándome la atención el ambiente, entrando, operándome y saliendo, trabajando bajo estrés y trabajando en equipo. Consideraciones finales: el contexto quirúrgico, como cualquier ámbito, influye en el cuidado de enfermería; en él se ponen de manifiesto retos para el equipo de enfermería en cuanto a las interacciones, pues estas han de ser eficaces y efectivas. El estado del paciente, su vulnerabilidad, el riesgo que implica el procedimiento anestésico y quirúrgico, sumados a la simultaneidad de tareas que enfrenta el equipo de enfermería, hacen que su trabajo sea estresante; por tanto, el servicio de cirugía requiere de un equipo de enfermería que pueda trabajar bajo estrés. |

This article has the following Purpose: Describing and analyzing the care context in the surgical center from the patients and nursing team’s point of view. Qualitative methodology focused on the fundamental theory. Data were collected through observation, informal and formal interviews to 20 patients, 19 nursing assistants and 8 nurses working in different second level surgical settings in the Valle de Aburrá. Results: a theoretical scheme comprising twelve categories arises from data collected. This study shall present the ca- tegory comprised in the following context: Working and being in a different area. It comprises the following subcategories: attention attracted by the environment, entering, being ope- ratedandgoing out, working under stress andteam working. Final considerations: the surgical context, as any sphere, has an influence on nursing care; it supposes challenges for the nursing team regarding interactions, as they should be efficient and effective.
