RESUMEN: La investigación aborda el tema de la empatía del espectador con la obra de la artista Patricia Piccinini, tratando de esclarecer cuales pueden ser las condiciones que influyen en la generación de ésta. La obra de Piccinini presenta criaturas híbridas e hiperrealistas que desafían el gusto y la comodidad del espectador, propiciando preguntas acerca de la percepción, el afecto y la empatía, asociados al cuerpo monstruoso o extraño. Con la intención de aproximarse a esa empatía se realizó una etnografía digital centrada en identificar las percepciones y los afectos que los espectadores registraban en las redes sociales cuando se encontraban con estas piezas artísticas. Esta etnografía digital fue innovadora pues sus variables y categorías se construyeron con documentaciones sobre el concepto de lo híbrido, como lo comprende y desarrolla la artista, e igualmente se le relacionó con la estética teratológica de Ernest Martin, Michel Foucault y Jesús Alonso Burgos para lograr una perspectiva que permite observar la variedad de los cuerpos de Piccinini desde unas consideraciones históricas y sociales. El despliegue de la investigación perfiló una estética teratológica que va más allá de las limitaciones de lo feo, lo grotesco o lo siniestro, revelando el cuerpo diferente como parte de lo natural y cotidiano; y situó a la etnografía digital como un apoyo imprescindible a la comprensión de las artes contemporáneas. |

Piccinini's artwork features hybrid and hyperrealistic creatures that challenge the spectator's taste and comfort, leading to questions about perception, affection and empathy, associated with the monstrous or strange body. With the intention of approaching that empathy, a digital ethnography was carried out focusing on identifying the perceptions and affections that the spectators registred in social media when they met these artistic pieces. This digital ethnography was innovative because its variables and categories were built with documentation on the concept of the hybrid, as understood and developed by the artist, and also related to the teratological aesthetics of Ernest Martin, Michel Foucault and Jesús Alonso Burgos to achieve a perspective which allows us to observe the variety of Piccinini bodies from historical and social considerations.
