Summary: | ABSTRACT: Extensive Livestock grazing systems in the tropic have been characterized for a drop efficiency in the land use, added to a great environmental deterioration on account problems as deforestation, burns, erosion, the loss of the biodiversity and social inequity. These factors affected the world ecological sustainability. Considering that 70 percent of Colombian livestock is extensive, it is necessary to consider alternatives as silvopastoral systems that permit to solve the problems related to the actual production system. There are several alternatives of silvopastoral systems to implement in Colombian Cattle production. Positive results of the silvopastoral systems depend of factors as the type of species to use, its susceptibility to the soil, to the weather conditions, to the shadow and to the appropriate density. Silvopastoral systems represent a strategic option for the livestock in Colombia. It is necessary to continue the investigation about them in order to diminishing negatives factors to their implementation. The technical importance of the silvopastoral systems according to recent research and aspects that affect their implementation in Colombia are described in this paper. |
