The first agronomic evaluation of ryegrass was conducted 60 days after seeding and then every 35 days until the fourth grazing. For data analysis we used a linear mixed model with grass genotype, topography, and number of cuts as fixed effects. The random effect was the farm. Biomass and establishment percentage were better in the high area (flat terrain) for the three genotypes (p<0.05). Biomass of annual diploid ryegrass was higher in the high and slope area (p<0.05). The leaf/stem ratio, height, length, and width of the last and fully elongated leaf were statistically significant (p<0.05) between the different cuts for all genotypes, showing that grass growth increases with the number of cuts when rational grazing management is provided. The results of this study support the conclusion that greater adaptation of diploid ryegrass associated with Kikuyu grass positively impacts biomass production under zero tillage.

El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el establecimiento de tres genotipos de ryegrass (Lolium sp.) -anual diploide, anual tetraploide, e híbrido tetraploide- en pasturas de kikuyo (Pennisetum clandestinum) con siembra basada en cero labranza. La primera evaluación agronómica del ryegrass se hizo 60 dias luego de la siembra y luego cada 35 días, hasta el cuarto pastoreo. Para el análisis de la información se empleó un modelo lineal mixto con genotipo del forraje, topografía, y número de corte como efectos fijos. El efecto aleatorio fue finca. La biomasa y el porcentaje de establecimiento fueron mejores en la zona alta (terreno plano) (p<0,05) del potrero en los tres genotipos evaluados. La biomasa del ryegrass anual diploide fue superior en la zona alta y de ladera (p<0,05). Relación hoja/tallo, altura, longitud, y ancho de la última hoja completamente elongada presentaron diferencia estadística significativa (p<0,05) entre los diferentes cortes y en todos los genotipos, evidenciando que el crecimiento del pasto aumenta con el número de cortes, siempre y cuando se haga un manejo racional del pastoreo. Los resultados de este trabajo permiten concluir que la mayor adaptación del ryegrass diploide impacta positivamente la biomasa producida con cero labranza y en asociación con kikuyo.RESUMO: A cultura do ryegrass pode ver-se limitada pela carência de maquinaria agrícola nas empresas criadouros de gado. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o estabelecimento de três genótipos de ryegrass (Lolium sp.) -anual diploide, anual tetraploide e hibrido tetraploide- em piquetes estabelecidos previamente com quicuio (Pennisetum clandestinum), sob uma metodologia de cultivo baseado em zero labrança. A primeira medição agronômica nos piquetes semeados com o ryegrass realizou-se aos 60 dias de cultivo e após cada 35 dias, ate a quarta vez que o piquete foi pastejado. Para a analise da informação empregou-se um modelo lineal misto, no qual os efeitos fixos foram: o genótipo do ryegrass, a topografia e o numero de corte e o efeito aleatório foi à fazenda. Nos três genótipos avaliados, a biomase e a porcentagem de estabelecimento mostraram um melhor comportamento na zona alta (piquete plano) (p<0,05). A biomase foi superior no ryegrass anual diploide na zona alta e de ladeira (p<0,05). A relação folha/talho, a altura, a longitude e o comprimento da ultima folha completamente estendida, apresentaram diferencia significativa (p<0,05) entre as diferentes safras e em todos os genótipos, demonstrando assim que o crescimento do ryegrass aumenta com o numero de cortes, sempre e quando se realize um manejo racional de pastejo.
