En el texto se abordarán los aspectos epistemológicos e institucionales que están implicados en el debate sobre la cientificidad de las matemáticas. A su vez, se hará un recorrido historiográfico señalando las diferentes posturas que tuvieron lugar en la polémica, para ofrecer elementos históricos y conceptuales de análisis respecto de las matemáticas como herramienta de la ciencia moderna. |

A su vez, se hará un recorrido historiográfico señalando las diferentes posturas que tuvieron lugar en la polémica, para ofrecer elementos históricos y conceptuales de análisis respecto de las matemáticas como herramienta de la ciencia moderna.ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes the conditions through which mathematics came to play a leading role in the study of philosophy of nature; even through they were previously subordinated to natural philosophy. This transformation is manifested essentially in a change of attitude towards traditional thinking by replacing the qualitative explanation of natural phenomena by a quantitative one.
