Sobre la racionalidad de la retórica se erigió la sofística, cuyo objetivo fue ganar ilustración para las decisiones públicas. Retórica y sofística ven correctamente que la acción política razonable está mediatizada por el lenguaje, pero caen en un error al asumir el Logos como mero instrumento o estrategia individuales, pues ello hace estallar la comunidad política. El saber como dialéctica es una respuesta de Platón a la lucha de opiniones que practican los sofistas. El saber es saber en la opinión, reflexión inmanente a la praxis, siempre abierta a la corrección. |

El saber es saber en la opinión, reflexión inmanente a la praxis, siempre abierta a la corrección.ABSTRACT: The challenge of sophistics forced Plato to posit the reciproca! interplay between nomos and lagos, law and measure so as to be able to feasibly sustain the enlightenment of the poli~cal class in its constant rhetorical interchange. Sophistics showed that absolute nomos is non-existent and that it is man himself who has to craft it. Sophistics is based on the rationality of rhetoric with a view to achieving enlightenment concerning political decisions. Both rhetoric and sophistics correctly view that reasonable political action is mediated by language, but equally both succumb to the erroneous conception which consists in assuming that lagos is a mere individual instrument or strategy however this idea undermines the political class. Knowledge as dialectic is Plato's response to the struggle between viewpoints as put into force by the Sophists.
