description ABSTRACT: Nutritional status and cognitive development are involved in all human dimensions as well as in body development. The main purpose of this review article is to know the relationship between these aspects and create guidelines for children programs. Objective: to get scientific understanding about relationship between intelligence, feeding and nutrition in children, specifically in scholar age. Materials and methods: scientific evidence of update articles and on-line information related to the topic were collected to write the paper. The information was available in academic scientific collections from libraries of Universities from Medellin. Results: scientific evidence reported that children, who meet nutritional requirements but live under undisadvantage environmental conditions, don’t can get normal development. These results suggest that in order to analyze the effects of food deprivation on cognitive development, it is necessary to study not only the biological aspects of children, but also the psychological and social determinants. Conclusions: Scientific research suggests that the risk factors which can impact negatively child’s development can be social, family or individual. And the more exposed children to these risks, the worse results for all dimensions of human development.

And the more exposed children to these risks, the worse results for all dimensions of human development.RESUMEN: Entre las dimensiones del desarrollo humano se encuentra el desarrollo corporal, que incluye el estado nutricional, y el desarrollo cognitivo; esta revisión tiene como finalidad contribuir a esclarecer la relación entre ellas y brindar elementos para la planificación de programas dirigidos a la niñez. Objetivo: compilar evidencia científica sobre la relación entre inteligencia, alimentación y nutrición en la niñez, con énfasis en población escolar. Materiales y método: se utilizaron fuentes de información con contenido reciente y clásico en esta temática, disponibles en colecciones físicas y en línea de universidades de la ciudad de Medellín. Resultados y discusión: en los últimos años se ha evidenciado que los niños y niñas que satisfacen sus requerimientos nutricionales pero permanecen en ambientes desfavorables no alcanzan un óptimo desarrollo. Estos hallazgos sugieren que para analizar los efectos de la privación alimentaria sobre la capacidad intelectual, se deben considerar, además de aspectos biológicos, características psicológicas y sociales del ambiente en el que el niño o niña crece y se desarrolla.
