RESUMEN: Para que se dé calidad de vida es preciso considerar al paciente como un ser integral con un pasado, un presente y expectativas para el futuro; darle importancia como principal fuente de información sobre su situación; evaluarlo en sus diferentes dimensiones humanas teniendo en cuenta no sólo el funcionamiento físico sino también el psicológico, el espiritual y el social así como los efectos de los diferentes tratamientos. Se logra infundir calidad a la vida del paciente cuando se le sigue dando importancia hasta el final y se evita que sufra innecesariamente; cuando se respeta su autonomía frente a los tratamientos propuestos y se le ayuda a ver la muerte como una parte natural del proceso de vivir; cuando se establece y mantiene con el paciente y su familia una relación basada en aspectos humanos, éticos, científicos y técnicos. |
