Summary:ABSTRACT: We investigated the use of free time among adolescent students in the northwest of Medellin in the year, 2010, noting the groups to which young people prefer to spend their free time and the frequency with which they perform physical activities and sports in the use of time. Socioeconomic more common in this area was 3 with a frequency of 39,3 % of the total data, followed by layer 2 with a frequency of 24,9 %. It is clear that adolescents generally spend most free time to do homework or study at a rate of 22,2 %, i.e., 9.604 students prefer to spend their leisure to the completion of their tasks. Men prefer activities that are outside the home, such as playing sports, while women prefer activities within the home and do homework or study. Discriminating information for communes, in Castilla and Robledo, adolescents prefer to work or study in the implementation of development activities such as leisure time for these people, and in the Doce de Octubre, prefer playing sports. In general, adolescents do not like to belong to any group except for sports or your group of friends. 45 % of the teenage population is sedentary and activities with friends or watching TV not different sex or age group.
