Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: This article reviews the potential hazards of using the term ‘statistical significance’ as well as the importance of analyzing size effects of differences found at the research reports articles. Thus, this article presents a review of concepts like statistical significance, type I and type II errors, and clinical relevance. Similarly, a discussion regarding other statistical measures, such as confidence intervals, is presented. At last, two ideas are presented as main conclusions of this analysis: the first deals with the importance of identifying the best statistical tests to either accept or reject the null hypothesis in a research study. The second idea highlights the need of clarifying the clinical relevance of differences’ size effect.
