| Summary: | ABSTRACT: This article refers to care as the very internal value of the nursing profession, the specific objective that gives meaning to this activity, granting the profession social legitimacy. It expounds reasons why actions taken while giving attention transmit a power capable of being either liberating or reducing for those that receive care and also for those that act as caregivers. It refers to ethics, technology, scientific knowledge and interpersonal relationships as being the dimensions of quality that form a network of factors, which are necessary for the achievement of excellence in professional practice. It highlights the importance of the nursing professionals’ participation in the construction and evaluation of their own quality standards, in order to reach the goal of self-regulation. Finally, it proposes strategies for establishing a quality care project that can guarantee development and satisfaction among nursing professionals. |
