RESUMEN: Objetivo: identificar las maneras en que las personas expresan sus emociones durante la espera en los servicios de urgencias. Análisis a partir de diarios de campo y entrevistas; se extractaron códigos que se agruparon en categorías para obtener una visión total del fenómeno; se garantizó la confidencialidad. Resultados y discusión: las salas de espera de los servicios de urgencias son espacios impersonales que limitan la comunicación y el acompañamiento entre las personas, y hacen que se generen diferentes estados emocionales que se expresan a través del cuerpo. Se suscitan conversaciones con extraños, movimientos, miradas y gestos con diferentes significados. Reflexión: el conocimiento de las diferentes formas de expresión de las experiencias emocionales de los pacientes y sus familias permite implementar, en las instituciones de salud, mecanismos para favorecer la comunicación asertiva entre usuarios y personal de salud, para la toma de decisiones oportunas y adecuadas a cada situación, de manera que la atención de urgencias sea un proceso humanizado. |

Purpose: to identify ways in which people express emotions during waiting periods in the emergency services. Methods: qualitative approach with focalized ethnography tools; 50 observation hours were used. Analysis from field logs and interviews; codes were extracted and grouped in categories to obtain a total view ofthe phenomenon; confidentiality was guaranteed. Results and Discussion: waiting rooms of emergency services are impersonal spaces which limit communication and accompaniment between people and generate different emotional states which are expressed through the body. Conversations with strangers, movements, looks and gestures with different meanings appear.
