Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: With the purpose of contributing to establish an Embryo Transfer Prongram for the propagation and preservation of the blanco oreginegro (BON) Colombian criollo cattle, three adult cows from the Universidad de Antioquia BON herd were selected and tested by using two different superovulation protocols (SOV). Two cows were injected with a synthetic FSH source (porcine-FSH) whereas the third cow was injected with PMSG. At PGF2α-induced estrus the cows received two Artificial Inseminations (A I) with 12 hours interval, using semen from BON Sires. Eight days after AI embryos were recovered in PBS-albumin by a non-surgical procedure using Rush catheter, then classified by quality standards and finally frozen using 10%-Glycerol. Estradiol and progesterone were measured at day 8 post IA by RIA and MELA. From the pFSH-treated animals, the 12-4 cow yield 40 viable class I and II embryos from which 17 class I embryos were frozen; it’s P, and E levels were 28.53ng/ml and 6.33 pg/ml respectively. The 26-1 cow yield 7 viable with 3 class I embryos being frozen; its P and E levels were 9.21ng/ml and 34.96 pg/ml, respectively. However, the PMSG-treated 24-8 Cow suggested only yield 7 non embryos; its P and E levels were 6.86 ng/ml and 47.05pg/ml, respectively. These three-case report and the surprisingly high SOV response from 14-8 Cow suggest a high variability to SOV-treatment in BON Colombian Criollo Cattle, in the aim of the Universidad de Antioquia to preserve this endangered Breed
