Summary:ABSTRACT: The academic and professional profile of nurses from the University of Antioquia School of Nursing that held the obligatory social service at institutions of first and second health assistance levels in the Province of Antioquia during the first semester of 1993. The methodology of prospective analysis was used in order to carry out a quali-quantitative evaluation of management function of the academic and professional profile. An attitude Likert- like scale was applied for the identification of nurses satisfaction level with the received education and management performance. The study shows that the nurses consider relevant all the theoretical background in management received at the University; They also state that first level health assistance hospitals offer better opportunities to have an autonomous performance in the obligatory social service. Nurses are sure facing the making of decisions regarding nursing assistance and are not sure in personal management.
