RESUMEN: El presente artículo es una aproximación sobre las respuestas locales a los procesos de centralización política y jurídica liderados por la élite gobernante en Colombia durante el proceso de emancipación frente al dominio español que se cursó durante la primera mitad del Siglo XIX. Para ello, se analiza un caso concreto, el proceso judicial que inicia un alto funcionario del Estado contra un clérigo secular quien, mediante hojas sueltas, prédicas religiosas y “asaltos” a las lecciones de principios de legislación impartidas en los Colegios Mayores, se proponía obstaculizar el proyecto modernizador que ejecutaba la élite dirigente. Son dos los principales focos de interés en este análisis: primero, los métodos de disciplinamiento y homogenización social utilizados por la élite en el proceso de construcción política de un cuerpo colectivo al cual gobernar y, segundo, las discusiones sobre el contenido de los estudios de jurisprudencia que fueron centrales a los esfuerzos de estatalización y racionalización de la justicia durante el periodo de transición de la colonia a la república. |

To do this, a case is analyzed, the legal process started by a senior official of the State against a secular clergyman who, through flyers, religious preaching, and “assaults” on the lessons of the principles of law taught in the Colegios Mayores, tries to impede the modernizing project being carried out by the ruling elite.
