Summary:ABSTRACT: The aim 01this study was to describe the oral health among preschool children lrom education institutes in the urban area, in the city olCaldas -Antioquia. A representative random sample was selected 01215 children males and lemales, 5year old. The caries prevalence and history were evaluated through dmlt and DMFT indexes.; Iurthermore. oral hygienestatus and treatmentchildren needs wereassessed. The relationship between the oral problems with the lollowing risk lactors: sex, average years 01mother's education, mother's occupation ,parent's teaching activities in children oral hygiene, mother previous inlormation about oral heelth, among others were explored. As result. this investigation showed a caries prevalence among the study group 0148% (95% Confidence lnterval 41.3 - 54.6), a gingivitis prevalence 0183.7% (95% C.!. 78.3 - 88.2). The average 01 dmlt index was 2.5 with previous caries Irequency 0153% (95%C.! 45.9- 59.2). When some risk lactors were explored, the average years 01 mother's educstion, less or equal to five was associated with caries history; gingivitis prevalence and deficient oral hygiene (P value < 0.05).
