The test was originally developed by Parker, Tupling & Brown in 1979, and adapted by Gómez, Vallejo, Villada & Zambrano in 2007. This account of research results is based upon the attachment theory developed by John Bowlby, and pretends to bring information that could be useful for intervention in different areas of the mental health field.

Dicha caracterización se realizó con una muestra de 232 personas en edades entre los 16 y los 46 años y se utilizó la prueba Instrumento de Lazos Parentales (Parental Bonding Instrument – P.B.I) en su versión adaptada para población colombiana, desarrollado originalmente por Parker, Tupling & Brown en 1979, y adaptado por Gómez, Vallejo, Villada y Zambrano en 2007.
