The most used antibiotics in the treatment of periodontal diseases are tetraciclines, mainly in cases of Localized Juvenile Periodontitis (IPL). Penicillins have a limited effect, but Amoxacilin combined with potassic Clavulanate has shown to be useful in cases of Refractory Adult Periodontitis, when microflora is basically Gram (+). Metronidazole may be effective in Adult Chronic Periodontitis, when flora is strictly anaerobe. used in combination with Amoxacilin is useful for the elimination of A. actinomycetemcomitans. Clindamicin is an useful alternative for Refractory Periodontitis associated principally with Gram (-) flora. There is a discussion on antibiotic therapy in periodontics, and its conclusion is that there is no clear support for the antibiotic rutinary treatment of Adult Periodontitis. |

There is a discussion on antibiotic therapy in periodontics, and its conclusion is that there is no clear support for the antibiotic rutinary treatment of Adult Periodontitis.RESUMEN: En algunas enfermedades periodontales se ha reconocido, por estudios recientes, que son causadas primariamente por microorganismos específicos, lo cual ha llevado a investigar cuáles bacterias son más prevalentes en ellas y desarrollar los regímenes de antibióticos, que pueden ayudar a los procedimientos manuales utilizados tradicionalmente como el alisado radicular y la cirugía. Los antibióticos más comúnmente utilizados han sido las tetraciclinas y específicamente en la periodontitis juvenil localizada. Las penicilinas han tenido un efecto limitado, pero la Amoxicilina más el Clavulanato potásico (Au) han mostrado un buen efecto en la periodontitis refractaria del adulto en la cual predomina una flora gram (+). El Metronidazol ha mostrado cierta efectividad en periodontitis crónica del adulto cuando la flora es estrictamente anaerobia. Cuando se utiliza en unión con la Amoxicilina ha mostrado ser efectiva en la eliminación del A. actinomycetencomitans. La Clindamicina es una alternativa útil en la periodontitis refractaria cuando está asociada a una flora predominantegram (-).
