Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: The inhabitants of the Momposina Depression, in the Caribbean plains of Colombia grant to the so called “monte” animals a preponderant place in its oral tradition. Tales, proverbs, songs, and poetry that accompany the carnival dances reflect popular knowledge about the fauna and the feelings that the different species inspire. The behavior of the wild birds or “pájaros del monte”, of the rabbit, of the fox and of the buzzard raises reflections on the human condition which are transmitted to children and young people through different genres of oral tradition.
