| Summary: | ABSTRACT: This essay refers to several concepts that constitute a new mega-tendency, perhaps the only one in the world scene at the beginning of the century: globalization, a new vein in the academic debate. In the same way, it is considered as a different option for local, national and international public health. This paper considers the topics of economy, of politics and social subjects focusing on the globalization of health, as the main perspective of the analysis. Different tendencies within the relationship between health and globalization are explored on the basis of some effects of economic, technological, cultural and political globalization. Its consequences and alternatives on health (such as the epidemiological, ethic, sanitary, environmental, authority and equity) are also examined. The article also acknowledges the opportunities new mega-tendencies have provided since the late twentieth century, not only approaching the academic debate but also pointing out to the search for social horizons for humanity: another alternative to the economic hegemony. |
