Methodology: a descriptive crosssectional study was carried out in three independent, random, and representative samples, according to the type of contract under which professors were working for the university. A total of 89 professors were surveyed, using Maslach (mbi) validated scale and Duran teaching labor satisfaction scale. Results: prevalence of presumable burnout cases was 19.1% (18), highlighting that 49.4% (39) were under a presumable risk of suffering the syndrome. According to the kind of contract, full-time teachers presented the highest prevalence (25%). The general average of labor satisfaction in educators was 123 points (possible score: 22-154). Conclusions: in general, teachers reported low levels of emotional tiredness, depersonalization and personal fulfillment (the latter being a negative indicator). Furthermore, no differences were found in scores of job satisfaction by sex, age or the type of contract.

Furthermore, no differences were found in scores of job satisfaction by sex, age or the type of contract.RESUMEN: Determinar la prevalencia del síndrome de burnout, su relación con diversas variables demográficas y laborales y la satisfacción laboral en los docentes de la Facultad Nacional de Salud Pública, durante el segundo semestre del 2008. Metodología: se llevó a cabo un estudio de corte transversal en tres muestras independientes, aleatorias y representativas según el tipo de vinculación del profesor con la universidad. En total fueron encuestados 89 docentes. Para medir la prevalencia del burnout se tomó como referencia el Maslach Burnout Inventory (mbi) y para satisfacción laboral, la escala de satisfacción laboral docente de Durán. Resultados: la prevalencia de los casos probables de burnout fue de 19,1% (18); se resalta además que 49,4% (39) adicional estaba en posible riesgo de sufrirlo. Según tipo de vinculación, entre los profesores de planta se presentó la prevalencia más alta (25%). El promedio general de satisfacción laboral en los docentes fue de 123 puntos (puntaje posible: 22-154). Conclusiones: en general, los profesores reportaron bajos niveles de cansancio emocional, despersonalización y realización personal (este último es un indicador negativo).
