Se destaca el papel de los varios exámenes micológicos que permitieron establecer prontamente el diagnóstico en pacientes con cuadros clínicamente inespecíficos, caracterizados por fiebre, adinamia, pérdida de peso y manifestaciones respiratorias, neurológicas o de piel. De los 11 pacientes con micosis, nueve fallecieron con la enfermedad activa (81.8%), por lo cual el médico debe estar alerta e incluir las micosis en el diagnóstico diferencial de una infección progresiva, diseminada en pacientes VIH positivos. |

This group of patients represent 8.7% of the total number registered with diagnosis of AIDS at the Public Health Laboratory of Antioquia (Colombia). Non specific symptoms and signs as fever, weakness, weight loss, cough, and skin lesions were the commonest; for this reason, the laboratory had an important role for the definite diagnosis. Nine patients died with active disease (81.8%).
