RESUMEN: Por diferentes motivos, es cada vez más recurrente que las personas mayores terminen sus últimos años de vida en instituciones que se especializan en el cuidado y protección de esta población. Y aunque estos lugares cuentan con personal calificado que se encarga de suplir las necesidades básicas tanto físicas como cognitivas, hay ciertas responsabilidades que los familiares y red de apoyo no deben de relegar, entre ellas el acompañamiento afectivo y emocional en esta última etapa. Al identificar problemáticas recurrentes como el abandono, la despreocupación, el desinterés, se hace necesario pensar estrategias y metodologías que permitan fortalecer los vínculos afectivos entre las personas mayores que se encuentran institucionalizadas permanentemente y sus familiares, amigos y personas cercanas que configuran su red de apoyo; para que así, tengan una vejez digna rodeada de sus seres queridos. Es así como se identifica a la familia y red de apoyo como un factor fundamental, determinante e influyente en el estado de ánimo y receptividad de los adultos mayores, así como necesario para que la vejez no se convierta en una etapa de soledad y agobio. |
