El ciudadano territorial : propósito de la formación ciudadana

ABSTRACT: The reflection “The territorial citizen: purpose of citizenship education” is the result of two investigations: The first one, approved by the CODI (Research Development Committee), medium size budget 2008, entitled: The study 3 of territory as an strategy for strengthening of citizenship competencies. An analysis of the Integral Urban Program in the Northeast zone (PUI/NOR) of Medellin, Colombia, whose objective is aimed towards identifying the relationship between territorial studies and citizenship competencies. And the second one, a Doctoral Thesis in Education in the line of Citizenship Education called: Citizenship education from the perspective of territorial studies as a pedagogical strategy, Case: PUN-NOR Medellin, Colombia. The central objective of this thesis is to establish the foundations for citizenship education in elementary and secondary school in the Colombian public educational system, from the inclusion of the educational potential of territorial studies. The theory of the text deals with the education of the territorial citizen as the basis of territorial citizenship aimed at contributing to strengthening a political democratic project. At the end, accepting the absence of the desired citizen to consolidate democracy, because such said citizen is not born but made, it is necessary to educate him/her in context, consciously and intentionally linked to the territory where he/she inhabits, constructs and studies, where he/she is able to spread, alongside other citizens renewed efforts oriented towards ensuring respect for the difference, the recognition of plurality, construction of a better life and , consequently, contributing to the consolidation of democracy. The objective of the reflection is to contribute to Colombian geography education, making it visible and arguing the possibilities of citizenship education based on the conscious process theory, under the studies made to territories with a critical geography approach, in order to construct the territorial citizen who promotes democracy from the exercise of his/her citizenship. The theoretical relation between territorial studies and citizenship education, from conscious processes and a critical geography, to create the desired territorial citizen is the contribution provided by geography education and the social sciences.
