Summary:The sleep disorder is a problem that concerns the elderly geriatric population, which interferes with the quality and quantity of hours of rest, this is related to the quality of life of each human being. Objective: to determine the incidence of the type of sleep-wake disorder in these people, as well as clarify some specific aspects such as determining the types of sleep-wake disorders that most affect older people, identify the symptoms most frequently associated with sleep disorders sleep and assess whether there is care deficit in multidisciplinary management according to Dorothea Orem's theory. Methodology: information was obtained from a sample of 35 people over 60 years of age through the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-V book, which gave us the presumptuous information that types of Sleep-Wake Disorders could be identified in patients. geriatrics Results: it was found in the institution that 51.4% have more than four disorders, 28.5% have one or more disorders, with only one disorder and 20% have two or three disorders. Conclusion: in older adults, exceptional care is required, taking into account that it is a population at risk, taking into account the possible causes, the general condition of them, they are often patients with comorbidity.
