Summary: | This study was carried out with the objective of quantifying the population of the pollinating insect Elaeidobius kamerunicus Faust and analyzing its relationship in the conformation of the clusters of oil palms (Eleais guinnensis Jacq) in the Palmas del Sinú S.A.S plantation, in Montería-Córdoba. It was determined that low populations of insects found in female flowers significantly induce a low or deficient percentage of fruit set, approximately 5 months later, at harvest time, while in the months where pollinator populations were high in female flowers, a good cluster conformation was observed at harvest time. On the other hand, within the study it was decided to carry out an assisted pollination trial which sought to compare clusters pollinated in a natural way (entomophilic pollination) and clusters pollinated in an assisted way. In some sectors of the plantation and by means of mathematical and statistical formulas, a physical analysis was carried out on these clusters, approximately 5 months after pollination in the flowers. In order to compare both treatments, components such as% humidity, % oil in the bunches, % of normal fruits, average weight of bunches, among others were determined, and significant statistical differences were obtained in most of the components analyzed. However, this work required a large amount of resources and it is recommended that it should only be used under certain specific criteria. |
