Description
Summary:This business practice was carried out in the company Agrícola Sara Palma S.A. which is dedicated to the production of bananas for export in the municipalities of Apartadó, Carepa and Chigorodó, in the region of Urabá, in the department of Antioquia, Colombia. Different banana crop management activities were carried out to obtain high productivity and excellent quality of the banana fruit, in order to meet the demands that may arise in the purchasing market. Within these activities, emphasis was placed on the design of drainage channels, as well as the need for them to ensure the sustainability of good quality fruit over time. The objective of this business practice was to identify and quantify the productive area lost due to poor design and construction of drainage canals in a banana plantation in the "Horizontes" farm located in the municipality of Carepa-Antioquia. In order to achieve the proposed objective, lots 16, 17 and 18 were selected because they had excess or poorly designed drainage canals, although these were also identified as having canals located on slopes or other characteristics they have, due to the above, it was quantified that each of the lots had a certain area lost due to the construction of the canals, which is 0. 05has, 0.13has and 0.15has respectively, which contributes to the increase in losses that can be generated by erosion of these selected canals, since these will be added to those of the drainage canals that do fulfill their function. Productivity itself is also affected, since due to the area lost by the drainage channels in lots 16, 17 and 18, which have an absence or lack of 85, 221 and 225 plants respectively, which decrease the productivity that these could achieve.
