Description
Summary:In this work, a Mössbauer study and SEM-EDX analysis of a total of 8 archaeological samples (F7, F8, F9, F10, F11, F12, F13, F14) from the study “Prospección e Inventario Arqueológico de la Vereda Betania, Municipio El Carmen de Viboral (Antioquia)”. The samples basically correspond to ceramics, faience and tiles. From 71 archaeological sites corresponding to occupations by pre-Hispanic agricultural societies, and recent or postcolonial occupations, possibly from the time of the Republic. The Mössbauer study allowed us to characterize these samples and, likewise, associate them with certain minerals that were identified from the hyperfine parameters obtained from the fit of the spectra. The adjustment of the spectra was done through the "RECOIL" program, using a model of Lorenzian sites, where sites associated with doublets and/or sextets were considered. What allowed to identify that all the samples consisted of silicate phases that contained divalent and trivalent iron. Additionally, we were able to identify that two of the samples exhibit minor magnetic phases. The SEM-EDX analysis allowed us to identify the elements that compose the samples and in what quantity these elements are found. Highlighting that the elements with the highest concentration in all of them are Oxygen (O) and Silicon (Si).
