Summary:The present investigation intends to make a description of the professional practice in Community Social Work from the framework of the promotion of mental health in Bogotá, Colombia, during the year 2018. For this, an approximation is made to the experiences that the professionals with different populations such as urban, peasant, indigenous and Afro communities, seeking to recognize the actions that are carried out in different contexts, to generate a comprehensive well-being and increase the quality of life, which contributes to the promotion of mental health out of clinical spaces -psychiatric. Through research the contextual factors that influence the mental health of the communities are recognized, as well as the relationship between the actions carried out for the promotion of health and Social Work, together with the challenges that the profession has with regarding their work in the community with the aim of improving, directing and recognizing the actions corresponding to each social context
