Dichas patologías se desarrollan principalmente a partir de la falta de equilibrio entre tres agregados conductuales: la actividad física [AF], la alimentación saludable [AS] y el sueño de calidad [SC]. Si bien se documenta bastante información acerca de los factores biológicos predisponentes y consecuentes en relación con prácticas no saludables, hace falta evidencia acerca de la sinergia entre los factores psicológicos y contextuales que subyacen a la práctica simultánea de los tres dominios conductuales señalados. Por tal motivo, desde una postura biopsicosocial positiva se busca determinar si los protectores universales optimismo disposicional [OD] y flexibilidad en regulación emocional [FREE], en interacción con creencias compensatorias en salud [CCS] y factores ambientales – socioculturales, predicen a las conductas del balance energético corporal [BEC] en adultos. Para responder a dicho objetivo se realizaron tres estudios: a) traducción y validación de una batería de instrumentos de auto reporte; b) diseño y validación de un cuestionario para medir los factores contextuales y socioculturales; y c) formulación y evaluación de un modelo hipotético que predice las conductas que componen el BEC a partir de datos obtenidos con instrumentos de auto reporte. Las dos primeras investigaciones de corte psicométrico, y la tercera descriptivo-correlacional, con criterios de muestreo acordes a la naturaleza de cada estudio. Un análisis con Teoría de Respuesta al Ítem [TRI] determinó que los instrumentos Escala de Flexibilidad en Regulación Emocional y Escala de Creencias Compensatorias en Salud (estudio 1), así como el cuestionario de Factores Predictores de las Conductas del BEC (estudio 2), demuestran adecuadas propiedades psicométricas; por otro lado, un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales [MEE] estableció que la tendencia a la realización de las conductas el BEC es predicha por la interacción entre los factores del entorno físico y social, y las variables psicológicas FREE y OD, así como la poca presencia de CCS. De acuerdo con los hallazgos reportados, la presente tesis aporta tres pruebas de autorreporte útiles para la evaluación de dos variables psicológicas y la identificación de entornos físicos y sociales precursores de las conductas descritas en el contexto de la psicología de la salud, así como un modelo hipotético validado estadísticamente, que incorpora el agregado conductual del sueño en la ecuación del BEC, susceptible de modificación e inclusión de nuevas variables y tipos de medida conforme a la evidencia.
