The paper concludes that such species should not be planted in public and/or private urban green spaces in Colombian cities and towns, due to the severe and costly damages that their aggressive roots may cause.El artículo presenta cinco especies que actualmente hacen parte de la arborización urbana de muchas ciudades y municipios colombianos, pero que han sido reportadas por causar daños severos a construcciones arquitectónicas, obras civiles, redes de servicios domiciliarios e iluminación pública en el espacio urbano: ficus Ficus benjamina, caucho Ficus elástica, flamboyán Delonix regia, árbol del pan Artocarpus communis y tulipán africano Spathodea campanulata.
