Identification of caries risk in 2‐year‐ olds. Community dentistry and oral epidemiology, 46(3),PropiaAbstract Introduction: Early childhood caries (ECC) is the presence of one or more decayed teeth (cavitated or uncavitated), absent (due to caries), or restored in the primary dentition, in preschool children, that is to say, between birth and 71 months of age. Any sign of caries on smooth surfaces in children under the age of three, indicates a dental caries in primary teeth. Objective: To realize a literature review of the prevalence, severity, and lifestylerelated nature of early childhood caries in the years 2015 to 2020. Materials and methods: It was realized through a subjective investigation based on the variables that were found in scientific magazine articles between the years 2015 to 2020; taking into consideration the prevalence, severity and life style with respect to early childhood caries. Results: It was evidenced that the average age in terms of prevalence of dental caries in primary teeth. was between 3 and 6 years old; in 3 year olds it was approximately 50.8% and in 5 year olds it was 87.3%. Approximately 63% of school children between the ages of 2 and 6 had at least one tooth with signs of either cavitated or non-cavitated caries. Concerning the demographic location, it was observed that infants in rural areas have a caries prevalence of 70%, compared to 45% in urban areas. The prevalence of caries in overweight children was 95%, compared to underweight children, and growth retardation. Conclusion: The saccharolytic diet, prolonged breastfeeding and poor oral hygiene are the main risk factors associated with early childhood caries.Resumen Introducción: La caries de la infancia temprana (CIT) es la presencia de uno o más dientes cariados (cavitados o no), ausentes (debido a caries), o restaurados en la dentición primaria, en niños de edad preescolar, es decir, entre el nacimiento y los 71 meses de edad. Cualquier signo de caries en superficies lisas en niños menores de tres años, nos indica una CIT. Objetivo: Realizar una revisión de literatura prevalencia, severidad de caries de infancia temprana y su relación con el estilo de vida en los años 2015 a 2020. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó mediante un investigación subjetiva basada en las variables que fueron encontradas en artículos de revistas científicas entre los años 2015 a 2020; teniendo en cuenta la prevalencia, severidad y estilo de vida con respecto a la caries de infancia temprana. Resultados: Se evidencio que la edad promedio en cuanto a prevalecía de CIT fue entre los 3 y los 6 años de edad; en los infantes de 3 años fue del 50,8% aproximadamente y en los niños de 5 años fue del 87,3%. Aproximadamente el 63% de los escolares entre las edades de los 2 a 6 años presentaban al menos un diente con signos de caries ya sea cavitada o no cavitada. Con respecto a la ubicación demográfica, se observó que los infantes de zona rural presentan una prevalencia de caries del 70%, con respecto a un 45% de la zona urbana. La prevalencia de caries en niños con sobre peso fue de un 95%, con respecto a los niños que presentaban bajo peso, y retraso en el crecimiento. Conclusión: La dieta sacarolitica, la lactancia materna prolonga y la deficiente higiene oral, son los principales factores de riesgo asociados con la caries de infancia tempranaOtroOdontólogo(a)Pregradorecursos propiosPresencialspaUniversidad Antonio NariñoOdontologíaFacultad de OdontologíaIbaguéPalabras claves: caries dental, infancia temprana, Streptococo mutans, lactancia materna y sacarosa.Keywords: tooth decay, early childhood, Streptococcus mutans, breastfeeding and saccharoseRevisión narrativa: prevalencia, severidad de caries de infancia temprana y su relación con el estilo de vidaTrabajo de grado (Pregrado y/o Especialización)http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85ORIGINAL2020MagdaTatianaVaron.pdf2020MagdaTatianaVaron.pdfTrabajo de gradoapplication/pdf2620808https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/e8788115-57db-44db-9784-d767aabef9bf/download3d72ea436e46d8c91f7b6ab3b6984942MD512020Autorizaciondeautores.pdf2020Autorizaciondeautores.pdfAutorización de autoresapplication/pdf225714https://repositorio.uan.edu.co/bitstreams/11c9a4cd-c7f7-46d1-974f-ebecdf1ecf59/downloadd28398f2800fdc5b18544c2dc3e9fb7eMD52CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
