Gómez's methodology was followed to carry out this scoping review. Results: the ideal means of diagnosis for adenoid hypertrophy was lateral skull radiography, the most used method was the method of Fujioka et al., 1973, the craniofacial alterations generated by adenoid hypertrophy are convex profile, hyperdivergent facial pattern, mandibular plane highly downward and posteriorly inclined, reduced posterior facial height, deep and compressed palate and palatal inclined maxillary incisors and proclined mandibular incisors Conclusions: Evidence supports that oral breathing caused by adenoid hypertrophy produces changes in the development of children, generating craniofacial and dental alterations such as class II and class III relationships, open bites combined with mandibular prognathism

Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las Bases de Datos Pubmed, Science Direct y Web of Science. Se utilizó el programa RAYYAN para la selección de los artículos, se incluyeron artículos experimentales, estudios retrospectivos, ensayos clínicos aleatorizados. Se siguió la metodología de Gómez para realizar este scoping review. Resultados: el medio de diagnóstico ideal para la hipertrofia adenoidea fue la radiografía lateral de cráneo, el método más utilizado fue el método de Fujioka et al., 1973; las alteraciones craneofaciales generadas por hipertrofia adenoidea son perfil convejo, patrón facial hiperdivergente, plano mandibular altamente inclinado hacia abajo y hacia atrás, altura facial posterior reducida, paladar profundo y comprimido e incisivos maxilares inclinados hacia el paladar e incisivos del maxilar inferior proincliandos Conclusiones: la literatura científica evidencia el uso de radiografía laterales de cráneo para el diagnóstico de hipertrofia adenoidea.
