Also, a review of existing methodologies, mechanical and chemical, to process the recycled plastics to obtain parts, fuels or other plastics of this material is made. Finally, it is formulated an alternative for improving their quality.El presente artículo hace un estudio de lo que es un material plástico reciclado y sus aplicaciones. Se inicia con una revisión del concepto de material plástico, sus propiedades, aspectos y aplicaciones. Adicionalmente, se listan los materiales plásticos más empleados comercialmente y los que se están desarrollando con el fin de reducir el impacto en el medio ambiente. Posteriormente se hace una revisión de las metodologías existentes tanto a nivel mecánico como químico para el procesamiento de los materiales plásticos reciclados, con el fin de obtener objetos de material reciclado, combustibles u otro tipo de plásticos.
