Starting from Bertalanffy’s General System Theory, the author analyzes the various systems taking part in the so-called Urban Ecosystem: the natural system, the administrative system, the urban system, the transportation system, the economical system and the social system. Afterwards, it presents the impacts of the construction industry and the urban growth in Bogota, while the installment of green councils for sustainable construction both in the world and in Colombia goes on simultaneously. Hence, the author concludes that entering into a clean production and green market phaseis a priority for the construction industry in the country.El artículo aborda el tema de la vivienda en áreas urbanas haciendo énfasis en los impactos ambientales que esta industria genera a muy distintos niveles, y teniendo muy en cuenta los procesos que alteran, disturbian y deterioran el ambiente, antes, durante y después de la construcción de las edificaciones. Tomando como base la teoría de sistemas de Von Bertalanffy, el autor analiza los diversos sistemas que participan en la conformación de lo que denomina Ecosistema Urbano: el sistema natural, el sistema administrativo, el sistema urbano, el sistema de transporte, el sistema económico y el sistema social. A continuación presenta los impactos generados por la industria de la construcción y por el crecimiento urbano de Bogotá; y como contraparte, la implementación de Consejos verdes o de construcción sostenible a nivel mundial y en Colombia.
