In addition, it includes some of the foreign species reported for causing severe damageto the physical structure of Colombian cities and villages. As a conclusion, the article suggests that local architectureschools should revise their curriculum, in order to include a botanical study of urban trees and shrubs, their names and their features, so the new alumni can rely on their academic background when it comes to selecting and planting trees in our cities in the future.El artículo reflexiona en torno a la capacidad y la competencia de los arquitectos formados en Colombia para arborizar sus propios proyectos; la forma en que los arquitectos representas los árboles (sin nombre); el desconocimiento —por formación— de las especies usadas en la arborización urbana y sus características botánicas; y los efectos económicos de las arborizaciones no planificadas. Se incluyen algunas de las especies introducidas que han sido reportadas por causar daños severos a las estructuras físicas de ciudades y municipios en Colombia.
