Description
Summary:The purpose of this study was to identify the family functioning and communication of three single-parent families, when a member of their family has kidney failure. The research was carried out in the city of Bogotá and as an instrument to collect information, the semi-structured interview was used to investigate the life cycle, family structure, adaptation, relationship and communication before, during and after the disease. The categorical analysis of the information collected with the families allows us to find that these families experienced a crisis situation since the diagnosis of the disease, leading to an imbalance in the family system, since the members with kidney failure in the family took a distancing from the members of his family nucleus. Likewise, it is found that there are non-formal support relationships that help the patient to adapt to the disease and interact again and resume or establish interpersonal relationships with other subjects. In conclusion, it can be established that in families it is evident that in the organizational guidelines there is an intentionality of adaptation, relationships and communication during the process and current state of the disease, highlighting protection, care and support. The findings predominate in the strengthening that exists in families, in terms of adaptation, relationships and communication.
