Objective. To determine, based on a literature review, the in vitro antimicrobial effect of Eucalyptus globulus labill essential oil on Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Materials and methods. A compilation of articles was made using different biomedical platforms such as Pubmed, Science Direct, Academic Google, SciELO and Latindex, in this search the publications related to the antimicrobial effect of the essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus labill on periodontopathogens were identified, obtaining in total 48 articles with publication dates between 2000-2020, full text and written in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Results. The information from different minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus Labill were compiled. According to what was reported by the different authors, for P. gingivalis a MIC of 0.28mg/ml is necessary; F. nucleatum is 1.14mg/ml and A. actinomycetemcomitans is 9.13mg/ml. Conclusion. It was determined, through literature review, that Eucalyptus globulus Labill essential oil has an antimicrobial effect on Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalisand Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, where it was evidenced that a longer exposure time to the essential oil is necessary in the latter. Objetivo. Determinar con base en una revisión de literatura, el efecto antimicrobiano in vitro del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus labill sobre Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis y Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Materiales y Métodos. Se realizó una recopilación de artículos en donde se utilizaron diferentes plataformas biomédicas como Pubmed, Science Direct, Google académico, SciELO y Latindex, en dicha búsqueda se identificaron las publicaciones relacionadas al efecto antimicrobiano del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus labill sobre periodontopatógenos, obteniendo en total 48 artículos con fechas de publicación entre los años 2000-2020, texto completo y escritos en idioma inglés, portugués y español. Resultados. Se recopiló información de las distintas concentraciones mínimas inhibitorias (CMI) del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus Labill que según lo reportado por los diferentes autores, para P. gingivalis es necesaria una CMI de 0.28mg/ml; F. nucleatum es de 1.14mg/ml y A. actinomycetemcomitans es de 9,13mg/ml. Conclusión. Se determinó, mediante revisión de la literatura, que el aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus Labill posee efecto antimicrobiano sobre Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis y Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans en donde se evidencio que en este último es necesario un mayor tiempo de exposición al aceite esencial.
