Description
Summary:facial asymmetry has become a frequent reason for consultation in the care of adult patients that depending on their diagnosis the treatment can be complex. the objective was, to establish the prevalence of mandibular asymmetries with the use of panoramic radiographs of adult patients attended in the dental clinic of the antonio nariño university of villavicencio headquarters by means of the thilander analysis, the asymmetric formula of bezuur and the use of clinical records. a descriptive, observational and retrospective study was carried out. to analyze panoramic radiographs of patients of the clinic from 2018 to 2023, with a universe of 1856 clinical records of which, taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a sample of 218 clinical records was observed, data collection and tabulation was performed, and thilander analysis and bezuur's asymmetric formula were used to be able to determine the existence or not of mandibular asymmetry. the data was characterized according to the sex of the patient, showing that 52.8% of the patients were female and 47.2% were male, according to the age of the patient. according to age, taking into account men and women between 18-34 years there were 25.7%, between 35-44 years there were 17.4%, between 45-65 years there were 56.9%, and according to dental absence there were 87.7% of patients who presented dental absence and 18.3% who did not, according to the patients who did not present dental absence. according to the patients who presented mandibular asymmetry, of the 218 patients studied, 121 of them presented mandibular asymmetry. it can be concluded by means of the mann-whitney test that sex, 14 age and dental absence do not influence the presence of mandibular asymmetry, but there is a prevalence of mandibular asymmetry, independent of the other variables. mandibular asymmetry combines the shape and size of the structures of the face, and especially its lower third, associated with external mechanical forces or deformations "anomalies in the conformation of the structures", malformations "intrinsic pathologies consequent during development", and bad postures among others. mandibular asymmetry can trigger muscular dysfunctions, temporomandibular disorders, occlusal disorders and compromise esthetics. an observational and retrospective descriptive study was carried out to analyze the panoramic radiographs of patients from the adult clinic of the antonio nariño university, villavicencio campus, who present morphological alterations that generate mandibular asymmetry between 2017 and 2022, using the thilander analysis and the asymmetric formula of bezuur to determine if there is mandibular asymmetry. keywords: malocclusion, asymmetry, prevalence of mandibular asymmetry, thilander analysis, asymmetric bezuur formula, condyle, ramus, mandibular body.
